The Museond Fund, named for the Greek goddesses of creativity (Muses and beyond), is a private fund established by John Fairbrother, a queer (he/him), australio-canadian, retired professor/researcher in veterinary microbiology who spent his career working in the creative aspects of science. John is a passionate lover of all music, including classical, contemporary classical, opera, new, experimental, jazz, minimalist, world, noise feedback, electronic, musical comedy, hip-hop, R&B, pop, soul, folk, improvisation, etc… as well as contemporary dance and fusions of any of the above, with a strong preference for attending live performances of contemporary works in innovative spaces. He has been actively exploring this in the vibrant music scene of Montreal over the last 10 years.
MISSION
To encourage and recognize emerging composers and creators in music performance, especially in sectors of the community that have up till now, been underrepresented or disfavored.
To tap into the synergy resulting from bringing together different musical genres, traditions, and acoustic and electronic instruments; often combined with other performing art forms such as contemporary dance, theatre and cinema.
To recognize the importance of using appropriate performance spaces to optimize the listening experience and the connection between creators, artists and listeners.
A hope is that this initiative will contribute to rendering innovative music more accessible in a way which is viable for all concerned. This will help in its role as a balm for the soul and a means of more effective communication in this time of mobile phone domination, reduced attention spans, information overload, and misuse of social media.
