Performance Spaces

There is a wide variety of excellent performance spaces in the central area of Montreal, ranging from the world-renowned Place-des-Arts performance complex to a growing number of smaller spaces, often adapted from churches, historic theatres, and industrial spaces. We have compiled a list links to these spaces, as a possible resource for persons seeking particular events, but also for persons seeking potential spaces for new productions.

For each venue, we bring you to the front door and provide a link enabling you to discover what concerts are being presented and to explore the possibilities of renting the venue for a concert that you are planning. Of course this list is not exhaustive, please feel free to contact us if you wish to add to it.

The Place des Arts complex is situated in the Place des Spectacles in downtown Montreal, and includes Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Maison Symphonique, Théâtre Maisonneuve, Théâtre Jean-Duceppe, Salle Claude-Léveillée, and Cinqième Salle. These venues are grouped together under the same management and, collectively, focus on the presentation of independent, experimental and community-based music concerts and events. They are each renowned in Montreal for their great vibes and friendly atmosphere. Sala Rossa is probably the best known and most versatile of these venues. With its bohemian décor, folding chairs, stage, bar, and surprisingly good acoustics, it is easily adaptable to a wide variety of audiences and musical genres from punk to mixed music and small ensemble chamber music concerts.

These venues are the main home to the Suoni per il popolo Festival, a festival bringing together experimental music, art, and activism. This festival takes place in June each year, with more and more off-season activities. Also, many of the concerts of the new Montreal experimental music Flux festival, are held in these venues. The Flux Festival takes place in October of each year, and is a collaboration of several local organizations, including Arts in the Margins , Innovations en Concert , and Le Vivier.

The No Hay Banda annual concert series, which is spread throughout the year, is also held in these venues, mostly Sala Rossa.
