Projects Supported by the Museond Fund
The Museond Fund has provided funding for the following projects, which will be on-going, to recognize and encourage outstanding creators.
Recipient of 2025 Award, Genevieve Gros-Louis
Indigenous Creativity in Music Composition Project by the Ensemble Urbain Musique.
This project encourages the creation of works for string orchestra or chamber ensemble by Canadian composers of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis origin.
A selected applicant receives an award to compose a work to be premiered by Ensemble Urbain Musique, a conductorless string ensemble specializing in works by composers from identities that have historically been silenced within Western Classical music.
A call for proposals for the next competition will be made early 2026.

Museond Incubator for Emerging Trans, Nonbinary and Gender Expansive Artists.
This is a new sound-based program supporting artists who identify as transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, or gender-diverse. This project champions emerging sound creators, composers, experimental musicians, and artists working with audio in any form—including performances, recordings, installations, electronic compositions, sound art, and beyond.
The residency offers: a flexible creation period; financial support including fees, production expenses, and travel/accommodation; mentorship, production assistance, and promotional support; and optional public presentation or dissemination. This residency is administered by Innovations en concert and proposals are welcomed from artists across Canada. A call for proposals was made for the inaugural competition of 2025, click here for further details.
The work of the recipient of the 2026 competition, Z, a multidisciplinary artist, improviser, and poet, will be presented as part of the Flux Festival on 8 October, 2026, at Chapelle des Hospitialieres, 209 Avenue de Pins, Montreal.

Museond Prize for Creativity in Mixed Music
The Museond Prize for Creativity in Mixed Music has been created in conjunction with Le Vivier (https://levivier.ca/en/news/vivier-mix-2025-evening-marked-creation-museond-prize ). It will enable the commissioning of a new work for acoustic instruments and electronic devices, to be presented each year during Le Vivier's season. Le Vivier will be responsible for the complete management of the competition, including the national call for projects and the coordination of the jury. A rotation among member ensembles will be implemented so that each one can, in turn, be associated with the creation of the winning work.
A call for proposals was made at the beginning of January, 2026 for the inaugural competition (https://levivier.ca/fr/actualites/appel-candidatures-prix-museond-pour-la-creativite-en-musiques-mixtes ). A work of the recipient of this competition, James O’Callaghan (website address), will be premiered by the saxophone quartet Quasar, at the La Semaine du Neuf festival in February 2027 (website link).
